The 69TH ANNUAL BABA GRAND CHAMPION WINNER
is the
TIGERTON TIGERS (16-1)
2 – 0 win
over
PLOVER PTERODACTYLES (16-2)

Tigerton wins B.A.B.A. Title
The Tigerton Tigers won the 69th Badger Amateur Baseball
Association Grand Championship Game Sunday with a 2-0 victory over
the Plover Pterodactyles at Tiger Stadium.
The title game was a classic pitchers dual between
Tigerton's Paul Sellner and Plover's Howie
Heinrich. Both hurlers went the distance each allowing seven hits. Selner, in getting the win, walked two and struck
out two. Heinrich fanned six, walked one and hit one batter.
The game was scoreless through the first five innings
with the Tigers managing just three hits - two in the first inning as
Eric Gendusa and Erik roening
led off the game with back-to-back singles but were left stranded
when two fly balls and a strike out ended the frame.
In the second, Tigerton's Brandon Sivertson
reached on a fielder's choice and moved to second on a throwing error
but advanced no further as a fly to center by Gunner Kopitzke ended the frame.
The fifth inning saw the Tigers put runners on the
corners with two outs as Sivertson singled
and moved to third on a fielder's choice and an error, but Erik Kroening's ground out to third ended the frame.
In the sixth, the Tigers finally struck pay dirt. Dylan
Berg singled to open the frame and after Jon Berg was hit by a pitch
there were runners on first and second. Paul Sellner
promptly bunted the runners over and Brad Breaker followed with a
soft liner to center to plate the two runners. Neil Hoffman then
struck out and Sivertson banged into a
fielder's choice and the inning was over.
Tigers put runners on the
corners again in the eighth when with two out, Kroening
and Dylan Berg smacked back-to-back singles and Kroening
stole third, but Jon Berg fanned to end the threat.
Plover threatened in the fourth putting runners on the
corners when Eric Fritz singled and with two out Eric Flowerette singled, but
Derek Lemens grounded out to first to end
the threat.
Tigerton's defense turned
a double play to end both the seventh and eighth to escape any
damage.
In the ninth, the Pterodactles put runners at the corners again
after a single and an error that
turned into a force out at second put a runner in scoring potition but a fly ball to short ended the affair
in a nifty 1:50.
For his efforts, Tigerton
hurler Paul Sellner was named the game's
Most Valuable Player.
Erik Kroening
and Dylan Berg each had two hits for the Tigers. Brad Breaker was 1
for 4 with 2 RBI. Eric Gendusa and Brandon Sivertson each added a single.
For Plover, Eric Fritz
was 2 for 4, while Howie Heinrich, Bill Held, John Jazenosky, Eric Flowerette,
and Bryan Brom each had a single.
Plover committed two
errors in the title contest while the winners committed one.
Umpires for the title
contest were Rick Butalla (plate) and Jim Kamke, Ken Dayton and Bob Stoehr
(bases).
Following the game, awards
were presented by Commissioner Craig Brei,
former Plover star Mark Mattmiller and
former Tiger stars Ron Hoffman and Howie Sivertson.
This is Tigerton’s 3nd BABA title, In 2004
they defeated Clintonville and in 1953 they defeated Waupaca.
They finished runner-up in 2010 and 2011 to Waupaca, and 1993 to
Menominee.
Plover
finished runner-up for the 5th time, 2014, 2000, 1992,
1983, 1973.
