          4 (12- 4)                (15-2) CLINTONVILLE WINS B.A.B.A. TITLE

The Clintonville A's won the 70th Badger Amateur
Baseball Association Grand Championship Sunday with a 4-0 victory
over Elderon at Don Jirschele Stadium in
Clintonville. It's was the A's 14th league title.
     Prior
to the start of Sunday's title contest, a moment of silence was
observed for Wayne "Swede" Waukau, 1993 title game MVP who
passed away earlier in the day.
Clintonville took a 2-0 second inning lead thanks to some wildness by
Elderon starter Rick Boda. Dean Muthig opened the frame with a walk and Jansen VanDaalwyk reached on an error.  Jesse Wiley
then flew out to right and Jared Westphal
popped to short. Pat VanDaalwyk then
singled to load the bases and Parker Mendl
and Garrick Morgan drew consecutive walks as the A's scored twice.     The
A's added a run in the fourth when Wiley singled to open the frame
and later scored on Morgan's fielder's choice.  Their final run came in the fifth as
Nick Hogan singled and stole second. He moved to third on an error
and scored on Muthig's sac fly to center.
Elderon threatened in the first when Matt Meronk
banged a two-out double but the threat ended with a ground out to
second by Brandon Groshek. In the third the
WhiskeyJacks had runners on first and
second as Kasey Morgan walked and Marv Meronk
singled with two out, but Matt Meronk
fanned to end the frame. Elderon had only two runners reach base the
rest of the way - Troy Leiskau on a
fielder's choice in the fourth and Morgan on a walk in the eighth.     Pat VanDaalwyk, game Most Valuable Player, was the
winning pitcher. He allowed just four hits, fanned seven and walked
only two in a complete game, 110 pitch performance. Rick Boda took the loss. He worked five innings,
allowing four runs on five hits. He fanned one and walked two.
Reliever Alex Krumins worked three innings.
He allowed one hit while striking out four and walking three.    Clintonville
had six hits in the contest. Nick Hogan, John Dunlavy,
Jesse Wiley, Scott Schoenike, Pat Van Daalwyk and Parker Mendl
all had one hit a apiece.
Elderon totaled four hits. Matt Meronk
had a double while Marv Meronk, Brandon Groshek and Troy Leiskau
          had singles.
Umpires for the title game included:Ken Dayton (plate), Kevin
Moore, Rock Butalla, and Randy Kuivinen (bases).

          Following the game,which
drew a crowd in access of 1000 spectators, awards were presented by
Commissioner Craig Brei and Sec/Treas Gordy Boldig. Thanks go out to WDUX 800AM and their fine sponsors for again

 Tigerton 3 at Elderon
16Elderon took a 3-0 first inning lead and never looked
back as they marched over the Tigers. Hits by Brandon Groshek and Jason Zinda
and two hit batters gave the winners the momentum. Troy Leiskau's three-run homer in the third upped the
          lead to 6-0.
     The
winners put the game away for good in the sixth scoring six times to
          chase Tiger starter Paul Sellner.
Jason Zinda's grand slam and a 2-run double
by Matt Meronk provided the scoring.
Elderon added four more in the seventh on three hits, three walks and
a Tigerton error. Leiskau singled home two
of the runs with Mike Lehman and Brandon Groshek
          recording the other RBIs.
Tigerton finally got on the scoreboard in the 8th scoring three times
off Elderon reliever Jason Zinda. A walk, a
hit batsman and singles by Jon Berg and Gunner Kopitzke
figured in the rally.     Rick Boda was the winning pitcher. He allowed one hit
over seven innings, fanned seven and walked one. Zinda
and Shawn Kerstner also tossed for the
winners. They allowed three hits, fanned twelve and walked three.     Paul Sellner took the loss in 5-1/3 innings of work.
Eric Kroening and Shawn Much also worked
for the Tigers. They allowed 13 hits, fanned five, walked eight and
          hit three batters.
Brandon Groshek was 3 for 5 with a double
to lead Elderon. Troy Leiskau was 2 for 3
with a homer and six RBI. Jason Zinda was 2
for 4 with a grand slam amd six RBI; Matt Meronk was 2 for 5 with a double and two RBI.
Logan Hickman was 2 for 3 with a double while Marv Meronk and Mike Lehman each added a hit.     Jon
Berg was 2 for 4 and Hunter Kopitzke was 1
for 1 for Tigerton.   Clintonville 2 at Plover 0 (15 inn) Pat VanDaalwyk
and Eric Fritz labored for 15 innings before the A's finally scored
to put an end to the marathon. VanDaalwyk got the win
while striking out 14, walking one and hitting three batsmen. Fritz
took the loss despite striking out sixteen and walking one.
Scoring chances were few and far between in the contest with neither
team getting many runners in scoring position and then the rally
would be thwarted by a good defensive play or a strike out.
Finally in the fifteenth, the A's took the lead as John Dunlavy and Turner Doornink
belted back-to-back solo homers to provide the final margin.     John Dunlavy, Turner Doornink
          and Paker Mendl
all had two hits for the winners. Jesse Wiley had a double while Dunlavy and Doornink
homered.     Derek Lemmens had three hits including a double for
          Plover.     It
will be Clintonville's twenty-fourth trip to the title game. They
have won the title 13 times, most recently in 2013 over Elderon.
Elderon will be making their sixth appearance with the last being in
          2013. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
